Aretha Franklin, a memo found in an file from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (F.B.I.) dated April 8, 1968 reveals that the Federal Bureau of Investigation monitored the giant of soul & gospel music for years, collecting intelligence from sources on her involvement in the civil rights movement & what it suspected were her links to Black Panthers, Communists & those it deemed “Black extremists.”
